Rolex Tru-Beat 6556

stunning condition - unpolished case - perfect working order

Description
Most of us know: Quartz watches tick and mechanical watches sweep. But this Rolex Tru-Beat 6556 is a mechanical watch from 1956 and it is ticking. The complex mechanism of the caliber 1040 movement makes the blue hand jump from second to second (true beat second or deadbeat second).

Rolex sold the Tru-Beat mainly to doctors and medical scientists. However, the unusual complication of the Tru-Beat did not convince buyers in the 1950s, resulting in low sales. Finally, the production of Tru-Beat was stopped after about 5 years. Until today there was no ticking Rolex mechanism anymore. Furthermore, the "ticking" caliber 1040 of many Tru-Beat watches were replaced in the following years by the caliber 1030 due to lack of spare parts. Thus, it is very difficult to find an original example of the Rolex Tru-Beat with original 1040 movement. This particular Tru-Beat dates from 1955 and still houses the original caliber 1040. Due to that and the excellent and untouched condition of this watch we can say with confidence: it is an ultra rare collector's item.

The stainless steel case of this Tru-Beat is unpolished and has sharp edges. The silver dial is absolutely clean and free from scratches. The original luminous material is intact everywhere. The dial is divided by a crosshair into 4 areas. The reference and serial number is clearly legible between the lugs. The caseback is internally signed with I.56 (first quarter 1956).

The Caliber 1040 is a modified and more sophisticated version of the Rolex 1030 caliber. The movement works perfectly. The blue second hand jumps from second to second as it should.

The Rolex Tru-Beat 6556 is one of the rarest vintage Rolex references today. That's why this original and excellent specimen is a special vintage find.
