Tudor Submariner 7928

rare diver's watch - underline dial - round crown guards

Description
This Tudor Oyster Prince Submariner 7928 is a diver's watch from 1964 and features a rare underline dial.

As known, the Tudor brand belongs to Rolex. This Tudor Oyster Prince Submariner looks very similar to the Rolex Submariner. But after a closer look, you will find some unique features of this Tudor, such as the rose logo or the curved signature "Self-Winding" on the dial.

A rare feature of this Tudor Submariner is the small horizontal line at 6 o'clock. Until the early 60s, the material radium was used for the lume plots in the dial of wristwatches. In the early 60s the watch manufacturers realized that the radium is harmful to health. For the wearer of the watch it was relative harmless, because the radium was then already under the watch glass. But for the watchmakers it was a significant risk. Therefore, radium had to be replaced by the harmless tritium. Obviously, the watch manufacturers could not react right away and that's why temporary solutions were created. In 1962, the first Rolex / Tudor watches were produced with some distinguishing marks, which referred to the luminous tritium or a mixture of tritium and radium. The dial of the Tudor offered here has such a mark, namely the horizontal line at 6 o'clock. Hence the nickname Underline Dial. Those dials were produced for a very short time of 2-3 years and are therefore extremely rare and sought after.

The big lume markers ensure the beautiful overall view of that watch. The original tritium lume has aged to a vanilla color and gives this watch a nostalgic vintage look. The inscription in silver color on the black surface ensures a clear contrast and a good legibility.

This Tudor is in a great and honest overall condition. The black dial is preserved without any noteworthy spots. The hands have some signs of aging that truly reflect the age of this watch. The large 39mm stainless steel case looks very good and has natural signs of usage. The engravings on the caseback have remained deep to this day. The movement of this Tudor Submariner is the Rolex caliber 390 with automatic winding.

This vintage diver watch is not only a valuable addition to any watch collection, but also a reliable and attractive companion for daily wear.
