Universal Genève Space-Compax 885104/01 - MK1

countdown bezel - asymmetrical case - Valjoux 72

Description
Originally designed for divers, this Universal Genève Space Compax 885104/01 withstand extreme conditions, while maintaining its unparalleled functionality. The Universal Genève watches are greatly beloved by the Vintage community because of their outstanding design. The Space Compax proves this statement. The cool reverse panda dial fitted in the asymmetrical case is an absolute eye-catcher.

This Space Compax is the first MK1 execution with white sub-dials and big tritium hour markers. The evenly aged luminous material in the hour markers matches the color in the hands. The reverse panda dial has been fantastically preserved. The black surface, the small second register and the minute counter are absolutely perfect. The hour counter of the chronograph has a tiny spot that is barely visible to the naked eye. The screw-down crown is signed with the UG logo and the rubber pushers are complete. Today, many existing rubber pushers are worn down or have disappeared completely, making this "complete" example highly collectible.

The reference and serial numbers of the Space Compax are engraved on the case back. Most watches have naturally been serviced in their long history. During the service the movement is beeing overhauled and the case refinished. However during this procedure the numbers on the case back of the watch are step by step removed until they are no longer visible. This reduces the value of the watch significantly. Otherwise, visible numbers indicate that the watch has not been polished or has been polished very rarely. This criterion is very important for vintage collectors and makes the watch more valuable.

The serial and reference numbers of this particular Space Compax are clearly visible on the case back, which speaks for an unpolished case. The asymmetric case has retained its original, thick profile with sharp edges.

A very rare feature of this Space Compax is the special countdown bezel, in which the numbers are reversed from 60 to 0. This allows the diver to see immediately how long he can stay under water. The rotating bezel has been greatly preserved without scratches.

The movement of this watch is the famous and coveted Valjoux 72 (Universal Genève 85) and runs flawlessly.

The beautiful Gay-Frères bracelet has been well preserved. The clasp is stamped 4/68 (4th quarter 1968) and signed on the outside with the UG logo.

This Universal Genève Space Compax 885104/01 is a sporty luxury watch with beautiful aesthetics, accurate technology and historical relevance.
