What do you think about the Daytona boom of the last two years?
Franz Roman:
"In the last two years prices for the manual wind Daytonas have doubled. However, looking at the price development between 2004 and 2014, one can see that the watch was offered for 10 years at almost the same price (between € 25,000 and € 35,000). Considering that other models have become continuously more expensive, the rapid price increase after a long period is a logical conclusion and a normal development in my opinion. I see it differently in the "Paul Newman" market. Here prices have risen exorbitantly and they are in my opinion overrated. Today you have to pay 100 - 400 thousand euros for a "Paul Newman" dial. The price has climbed due to the tremendous demand, which in turn is largely based on the media impact of Paul Newman's "Paul Newman" auction in the end of 2017. However the price development of the "normal" Daytonas is very solid. This watch has always been cool and will remain cool forever."

"Due to the fact that everyone wants to have a Daytona, the question is superfluous. Despite the rising price there are Daytona-owners who do not want to sell their watch because they enjoy it so much and are proud and happy to have one. A manual wind Daytona should be present in any watch collection."
