The Rolex reference 6238 is referred to as the "Pre-Daytona" due to the fact that it was the last chronograph model before the legendary Daytona Reference 6239 was introduced. Therefore Rolex Cosmograph 6238 marks a milestone in the long history of the Rolex chronograph. This model was produced for a short period between 1960 and 1967.
This particular example has the serial number 1.166.xxx and dates back to 1965. The Pre-Daytona has a smooth bezel and a tachometer scale on the dial. While the Cosmograph Daytona was produced with two-tone dials, the reference 6238 was offered exclusively with a monochrome dial. This little detail makes the Pre-Daytona a popular watch among Rolex enthusiasts.
The silver dial is in excellent condition and offers clean aesthetics. The inscription "T-SWISS-T" at 6 o'clock indicates that tritium was used for the luminescent hands and the hour markers.
The stainless steel case has sharp edges. Overall, the watch is in a very honest and authentic condition. Under the hood of the Pre-Daytona is the famous manual chronograph movement Valjoux 72. The movement works properly, the chronograph starts, stops und resets perfectly.
This Pre-Daytona 6238 with its greatly preserved condition is an undisputable must for a sophisticated Rolex collector.
