Patek Philippe Grand Complications 3970 Rose Gold - Full Set

The Patek Philippe reference 3970 is considered the most important watch of Patek Philippe from 1990s. Many watch collectors are inspired by the great aesthetics and mechanical complexity of that wristwatch. The 3970 was made in white, yellow, rose gold and platinum. The reference 3970 is the youngtimer successor to the Patek Philippe references 2499 and 1518 - both holy grails of the watch industry.

The present watch is from 1996 and has a rose gold case. It is the fourth series of the reference 3970. The official name is 3970E. "E" stands for "etanche" (waterproof in French) and refers to the screw-down case back introduced with the second series of the 3970. The waterproofness of the case was improved compared to the first series which had a snap back.

The reference 3970 is a perpetual calendar and a chronograph in a single wristwatch. Furthermore, it has a moon phase display. The driving force is the in-house caliber CH 27-70 Q by Patek Philippe. "CH" stands for the chronograph complication and "Q" for the perpetual calendar (quantième perpétuel). It is an extremely reliable movement, which was used for all versions of the reference 3970.

The silver dial is very balanced and clear, although a large amount of information is displayed on it. The sub-dial at 3 o'clock combines the leap year indicator and the 30-minute counter of the chronograph. At 9 o'clock there is the sub-second and a 24-hour display (or day-night display). The moon phase and the date can be seen in the subdial at 6 o'clock. And finally, the day of the week and the month are displayed in two apertures at 12 o'clock. The dial surface has been kept absolutely perfect and clean.
