Description
The Universal Genève Space Compax is a vintage chronograph from the 1960s. The fascination for space travel in the middle of the twentieth century was the reason for the model name.

This particular Space Compax is the reference 885104/02 with a black dial and three black sub-registers. The chronograph has many interesting design details, such as the asymmetric case. To better protect the crown and pushers, the right side of the stainless steel case has been made thicker. The resulting asymmetrical shape is a unique attribute of the Vintage Universal Genève watches. The black dial features a red crosshair in the middle. The red UG logo and the red model name "Space Compax" can be seen at 12 o'clock. The baton tritium markers are enclosed by a white U shape.

When buying a vintage Universal Genève watch a very important consideration is the visibility of the engraved numbers on the case back. For most vintage pieces, the engravings are no longer visible due to wear and polish. That makes specimens with still visible reference and serial numbers on the case back very valuable. Crisp numbers is an indication that the watch was rarely worn, not polished or only slightly polished. On the case back of the offered Space Compax, both numbers are clearly legible. The UG logo on the acrylic crystal is another element that quickly disappears as a result of polishing. Also this tiny detail is intact with the offered specimen (see photos). Other susceptible components of this vintage watch are the rubber tips on the chronograph pushers. These are often in bad shape or even missing. In this example, the original rubber pushers are completely intact.

The case is sharp and has minimal signs of wear. The black bezel has an intact lume dot at 12 o'clock. The original tritium luminous material is completely preserved everywhere. The movement is the famous and coveted calibre Valjoux 72 (Universal Genève 85), which was checked by our watchmaker and runs perfectly. The beautiful and rare stainless steel Gay-Frères bracelet has been superbly preserved. The date inside the clasp is 1/67 (first quarter 1967) and outside it shows the UG logo.
