Universal Genève Polerouter Sub 869120/02 Blue Bezel

Gay Frères bracelet - rare blue bakelite bezel

Description
We love the blue bakelite bezel of this beautiful Universal Genève Polerouter Sub 869120/02. Another special thing about this vintage diving watch is the original stainless steel Gay Frères bracelet. This example dates from 1969.

The dial stands out due to many details, which in combination create an extraordinary appearance. Striking tritium hour markers, orange minute hand, date window with magnifying glass, red UG logo, red horizontal line, red "POLEROUTER SUB" logo. The stainless steel case was designed by Gerald Genta and has an asymmetrical shape. The case is thicker on the crown side, which should protect the crown. The screw-down winding crown is signed with a U for Universal Genève.

The excellent condition of this Polerouter Sub makes it a valuable collector's watch. The black dial is absolutely perfect. The tritium luminescent material is intact in all hour markers and hands. The dial is "SWISS-T" signed. The date window at 3 o'clock has a trapezoidal shape. A magnifying glass is attached to the crystal. The acrylic crystal is marked with the small letter U in the middle, which speaks for its originality. Today, it is almost impossible to find a genuine, signed crystal with the trapezoidal date magnifier. The movement of this Polerouter Sub is the automatic caliber 1-69 by Universal Genève. The watch runs perfectly and delivers very good values on the timing machine.

A special feature of this watch is the blue bakelite bezel. The old bakelite bezels are very prone to cracking and damage, which makes a well-preserved bezel rare. The flawless bezel of this specimen has retained its rich blue color to this day.

The case back of this watch still bears the engraved numbers. Both the reference number and the serial number are clearly legible. This is pretty rare because most UG watches have been polished many times, making the numbers disappear on the caseback. Those vintage watches are over 60 years old and it is normal that they have been polished over the years. That makes the examples with visible numbers on the case back rarer and more sought after.

And last but not least, this Polerouter Sub is accompanied by an original Gay-Frères stainless steel bracelet. The clasp is engraved with 3/69. These bracelets are very rare today.
