Attractive, reliable and simply cool! This Fortis Marinemaster 8001 from the 1970s is an exotic chronograph powered by the famous Valjoux 72 movement.
The chronographs were very popular in the 1960s and 1970s. New models came on the market, including the most famous chronograph Rolex Daytona. Fortis followed that trend and presented the Marinemaster. If you compare Fortis Marinemaster with Rolex Daytona, you can see that both watches have similar attributes. Screw-down caseback, complex dial and the legendary Valjoux 72 movement. Due to the exotic dial, this chrono can be compared to the Rolex Daytona Paul Newman. It is interesting to mention that the Fortis Marinemaster was produced in much smaller numbers and is therefore much rare than the Daytona. The other big difference, of course, is the price, which is still absolutely affordable and relatively low for Fortis chronographs.
The Fortis Marinemaster 8001 from the early 1970s offered here has a beautiful dial with black and blue accents. The beautiful three-register dial is very harmonious. The blue color can be found in the sub-dial rings and in the hands. The tritium lume is original and intact in all elements. Overall, this watch impresses with its excellent condition. Due to the crisp edges and deap engravings on the case back, you can be sure that this watch was never polished or maybe slightly polished once. The dial is immaculately preserved.
The heart of the chronograph is the extremely reliable Valjoux 72, which is considered as the mother of all chronograph movements. This Fortis runs perfectly, as you would expect from a Valjoux 72.
All in all, this Fortis Marinemaster is a high quality and rare chronograph with a modern and extraordinary look. The excellent condition additionally increases the collector's value of this vintage piece.
