Description
The Wyler Lifeguard is a cool chronograph from the 1960s. Large 40mm diameter, rotating inner bezel, red inner ring and a reliable Valjoux 23 movement result in an exceptional vintage timepiece.

The Swiss watch manufacturer Wyler was founded in Basel in 1924. The manufacturer's flagship was the innovative Incaflex balance wheel design, that was considered legendary at the time. That is why many Wyler watches have the "Incaflex" inscription on the dial. In 1933 there was a merger with Vetta. Wyler-Vetta became the official sponsor of the Italian national soccer team in 1934. The watches became more popular, especially among Italian celebrities from that time.

In the 1960s, Wyler produced some chronographs with unusual designs, including the Lifeguard 1502/6 offered here. The chronograph has an additional crown at 10 o'clock for rotating the inner bezel to read the elapsed time. Both crowns bear the Wyler logo. A striking component of the dial is certainly the white/red inner ring, that reminds us of the iconic Daytona Paul Newman.

What makes this watch special is not only its cool design but also its excellent condition. This Wyler Lifeguard was worn rarely and impresses with a beautiful dial and a sharp, unpolished case. The black surface and the white sub-dials are immaculately preserved.

The stainless steel case has a large 40mm diameter and sits very comfortably on the wrist. The typical engravings of Wyler can be seen on the case back. Even the light engraving of the reference number 1502/6 is still clearly legible. This suggests that this watch has remained unpolished. The majority of the preserved watches don't have these engravings anymore due to the polishing.

In addition to producing its own calibers, Wyler also modified movements from other manufacturers such as Valjoux. The heart of this two-register chronograph is the robust Valjoux 23 manual wind movement, that was modified by Wyler. It runs perfectly and is keeping time very precisely.
