This cool vintage IWC TV Screen watch dates from the early 1970s and is powered by the automatic caliber 8541B. This movement is known for its reliability and was used in the iconic IWC Ingenieur.
Whilst the IWC Ingenieur had an elegant design, the TV Screen was an extravagant model from IWC. The case dimensions 40x35 (width x height) were quite large for the standards at that time. But today this wristwatch is very popular for its size and is therefore also referred to as TV Jumbo.
The dial has a nice contrast thanks to the wide blue linen surface on which the hour markers and minute dots are placed. The brushed beige area in the middle of the dial bears the applied IWC logo and the date window. The tritium lume is original and intact in the hour markers and hands. The dial is in a pristine condition with an even patina. The case has slight signs of usage and is honestly preserved.
At the heart of this vintage watch is the 8541B automatic caliber, which many vintage experts believe is one of the best automatic movements of all time. Caliber 8541 was the successor to the 8531 caliber built in the Ingenieur Ref. 666. From about 1970 the caliber 8541 was equipped with a Greiner-type spiral roller for automatic adjustment and was therefore given the additional notation B (8541B). In addition, this caliber has a hacking feature, allowing to set the time to the exact second.
Overall, this IWC is a stylish vintage watch with an exceptional design that has been preserved extremely well.
