Heuer Autavia 1163 GMT MK2 Red Needles

super rare model - gay-frères bracelet

Description
Here we offer you the rarest MK2 execution of the Heuer GMT chronograph from the early 1970s. The colorful design of this Heuer Autavia 1163 GMT is just impressive.

The nickname "red needles" refers to the small red hands on the subdials, which can only be found on this GMT version. Thanks to these red hands this model is so rare. The Heuer GMT was very popular with pilots who wore the Autavia at work. However, due to the infrared lighting in the aircraft cabin, the small red hands were barely visible, which made the chronograph's legibility much more difficult. That is why this model was claimed by the pilots. After only 6 months, Heuer stopped producing the "red needles", which makes this model so rare and valuable.

This watch owes its impressive appearance to the dial design and colorful set of hands. Yellow GMT hand, orange chrono second hand, greenish tritium hour markers, red accents on the black dial: for us this is the most attractive Heuer GMT. By using the two-tone rotatable 24-hour bezel and the yellow GMT hand, the time can be read in a second time zone. In addition, this Autavia has a date window at 6 o'clock.

The stainless steel case has few signs of wear and appears to be unpolished. We assume that the watch was polished lightly a long time ago. Overall, the case is in a condition that is desired by collectors. The movement of this Autavia is the Heuer caliber 14. It is based on the famous automatic caliber 11 and is equipped with an additional GMT module that makes the GMT hand move and thus enables the display of the second time zone. The movement has been checked by our watchmaker and works perfectly.

This GMT is accompanied by a Gay-Frères Beads Of Rice bracelet. The clasp shows the Heuer logo on the outside and 3/71 on the inside (third quarter 1971).
