Description
This Longines Conquest 8221 is a diving watch from the late 1960s, powered by the Longines automatic caliber 431.

Given the upcoming quartz era, more and more Swiss manufacturers began to rely on the development of high-beat movements in the late 1960s. The goal was to double vibrations per hour from 18000 to 36000 A/h to guarantee higher precision. Zenith El Primero is one of those movements. Another one is the Longines Caliber 431, which is installed in the watch offered here. This ultra-precise movement was presented by Longines in 1967 for the 100th anniversary of the company and had a 42-hour power reserve, which was impressive back then. Today, the number of wristwatches with these movements is limited, which is why they are particularly interesting for collectors.

This particular Longines Conquest Diver 8221 is from 1969 and has a black dial with orange accents. The large hour markers are filled with original tritium lume, which shows a darker aged patina. The dial is absolutely flawless and free of any stains, scratches or the like.

As a diving watch, this Longines Conquest Diver offers the important features such as a rotating bezel and a striking minute hand. The orange bezel can be turned on both sides with the crown at 2 o'clock and has a luminous dot at 12 o'clock. The large orange minute hand stands out. In addition, this Conquest has a date display between 4 and 5 o'clock.

The stainless steel case measures 44mm in diameter and has a cushion shape. The case shows few signs of wear and is preserved in an honest condition. The heart of the watch is the Longines automatic caliber 431, which operates perfectly.

All in all, it's a cool 1970s diver in great condition, powered by a famous automatic movement.
