This attractive Heuer Autavia 1163 is the rare "Ridged Markers" version with a reverse panda dial and red accents.
This color scheme was named after legendary British racing driver Derek Bell who selected this Autavia model for his Formula 1 races. One of the most important features of this Autavia are the ridged stainless steel hour markers, hence the name "Ridged Markers"-Autavia. Later versions had polished hour markers.
The excellent condition of this watch makes it particularly valuable. The beautiful reverse panda dial is absolutely flawless. Every single tritium dot next to the hour markers is original and intact. The white sub-dials show a 30-minute counter at 3 o'clock and a 12-hour totalizer at 9 o'clock. Both sub-registers show a nice, even patina.
The stainless steel case will also make the heart of every vintage collector beat faster. The sharp edges, the thick profile and the original sunburst finish strongly suggest that this Autavia is unpolished. The minimal signs of wear suggest that this watch was very rarely on the wrist. The bidirectional rotating bezel shows hours and minutes. The black bezel insert is immaculately preserved and has no cracks, flakes or other flaws.
The Autavia is powered by the legendary automatic chronograph caliber 11, which Heuer developed in collaboration with Breitling, Hamilton, Dubois-Depraz and Buren. The movement has been checked and runs very accurately and reliably. A Gay-Frères Beads-Of-Rice stainless steel bracelet completes the offer. The clasp is stamped 3/69 (third quarter 1969).
The Heuer Autavia is the legendary racing chronograph of the Heuer family and this exceptionally preserved example of the reference 1163 is a valuable timepiece for those who appreciate vintage watches.
