Jaeger-LeCoultre Geomatic E398 Yellow Gold

This stunning Jaeger LeCoultre Geomatic E398 is from 1966 and can be described as a work of art of watchmaking of the 20th century. This elegant vintage watch features a 18kt yellow gold case and an extremely rare gold linen dial.

The history of watchmaking is hard to imagine without a mention of Jaeger LeCoultre. Then as now, Jaeger LeCoultre watches were certainly among the most respected Swiss quality watches. The watch you see here is a clear proof of that.

The Geomatic was presented in 1962 and was manufactured in very limited numbers until around 1970. Approx. 2000 stainless steel and approx. 1500 yellow gold specimens were produced in this short period. The fact that there were also different dial designs makes every single example that has survived to this day even more special, valuable and rare.

The Geomatic offered here has an ultra-rare and sophisticated linen dial with Arabic numbers and date at 3 o'clock. The dial is untouched and at the same time preserved in excellent condition. At 12 o'clock you can see the applied JLC logo and underneath the signature "Jaeger-LeCoultre" and "Automatic". At 6 o'clock the dial is signed with "Chronometre" and "Geomatic" and at the bottom with "Swiss Made T".

The 18kt yellow gold case is in excellent condition and has hardly any signs of wear. It measures 36mm in diameter and has small, elegant lugs. On the case back you can see the typical JLC Geophysik logo and the words "Chronometre" and "Geomatic". The movement of this Geomatic is the automatic caliber K881G from Jaeger LeCoultre, a special chronometer version of the caliber K881.

The true beauty and elegance of this Geomatic comes into its own when on the wrist. The watch is light and comfortable to wear. It is a fascinating vintage piece that makes the hearts of watch collectors beat faster because of its charming appearance. A fresh case, a clean dial and reliable timekeeping ensure that you cannot tell that this watch is almost 60 years old.
