Description
This is a Rolex GMT Master 16700 from 1998 with a rare "Swiss Only" dial that was produced for just one year. The watch is accompanied by perforated sales papers.

The reference 16700 was introduced as the successor to the 16750 in 1989 and was the first Rolex GMT Master with a sapphire crystal. Until 1998, tritium was used as a luminous material for the hour markers and hands. In 1998 there was a switch from Tritium to Luminova. In this transition year, the GMT Master 16700 was equipped with the "Swiss Only" dial, where only the word "Swiss" can be seen at 6 o'clock. From 1999 the "Swiss-Only" dial was replaced by the "Swiss-Made" dial and "Swiss-Only" dials that had already been produced were used as service dials.


The Pepsi GMT offered here has a U serial number and thus comes from the transition year 1998. But this GMT is not only a valuable collector's watch because of the extremely rare dial. The wonderful condition, the faded bezel, the reliable movement, matching original bracelet, original papers - this watch has everything you ask for.

The black dial is flawless and has white gold bordered hour markers with Luminova. The case is in excellent condition and, in our opinion, unpolished. The watch is powered by the automatic caliber 3175 with a GMT module that allows the time to be displayed in two time zones simultaneously. The Oyster bracelet is also in excellent condition and shows numbers that perfectly match the year of manufacture of the watch. Bracelet reference: 78790A, end links: 501B, clasp code: X10.

This GMT is accompanied by the original punched chronometer certificate. The watch was sold in Italy on July 1, 1998.

The Rolex GMT Master is currently one of the most popular watches in the world. Rare variations such as "Rectangular Dial" or this "Swiss Only" GMT are the icing on the cake. In general, you can say that a Rolex that was only produced for one year is always something very special.
