Certina Chronolympic 8701-504 Regatta

Valjoux 72 - mint condition - rare bracelet with Olympic rings

Description
This cool Certina Chronolympic 8701-504 is a regatta chronograph from 1972, which has been preserved in mint and unpolished condition.

Certina is a very old and traditional Swiss brand that was founded in Grenchen, Switzerland in 1888. For over 130 years Certina produces high-quality, reliable, precise and innovative timepieces. The Chronolympic was the best known and most successful chronograph from Certina with many interesting design variants. 1971 and 1972 are among the most important and eventful years for Certina. The company was authorized to develop a regatta chronograph for the Olympic Games 1972 in Munich. As result, the beautiful Certina Chronolympic 8701-504 was born and impresses watch lovers since then until today.

The combination of the cool tonneau case and the colorful dial design is unique. The chronograph has a white second hand and an orange minute hand. Both are central hands. The 12-hour totalizer is on a separate sub-dial at 6 o'clock. The Chronolympic Regatta also has a tachymeter scale on the inside of the dial.

What makes this particular example so special is without a doubt its mint condition. You can tell that the stainless steel case is unpolished due to the sharp edges and deep numbers on the case back. The watch was very rarely on the wrist and has almost no signs of wear. The dial is also in collectable condition without any scratches, spots or other flaws. The tritium plots behind the hour markers are all intact and not repainted. The winding crown is correct and shows the Certina logo.

A rare highlight of this Certina is the original stainless steel bracelet with the Olympic rings. What a gorgeous 1970s accessory! The bracelet has an adjustable clasp and sits comfortably on the wrist. The bracelets condition is great showing no scratches worth mentioning.

And last but not least, this Certina Chronolympic Regatta impresses with the reliable and precise manual-wind caliber Valjoux 728. The movement has been checked and adjusted. The chronograph starts, stops and resets perfectly.

All in all a fascinating wristwatch from the 1970s that is closely related to Olympic sport.
