Here you see a Universal Genève Polerouter Sub 869120/02 with a black bakelite bezel. This Polerouter Sub dates from 1968 and is one of the famous vintage classics.
The Polerouter Sub is a diving watch with a well thought-out design. The asymmetrical stainless steel case is thicker on the crown side to better protect the screw-down crown against water. The case was designed by none other than Gerald Genta. The dial of this diving watch has large tritium hour markers and an orange minute hand. These striking elements should make it easier to read the dive time under water. Thanks to its orange color, the minute hand stands out clearly from the hour hand, which minimizes the confusion with the hour hand.
Thanks to its marvellous and authentic condition, this Polerouter Sub becomes a valuable and collectable vintage wristwatch. It is usual, that the numbers on the case back are no longer visible due to the polish and regular wear. The visible numbers on the case back of this Polerouter Sub indicate that the watch has rarely been worn and has only been polished very slightly in the past. The case has sharp edges and a thick profile.
A vulnerable component of this vintage watch is the rotating bakelite bezel. The insert often shows some cracks and spots. The bezel of this particular Polerouter Sub is absolutely clean and perfectly preserved.
The black dial has no scratches or imperfections at all. The tritium lume is originally preserved in the hour markers and hands. The acrylic crystal features the small UG logo in the middle, which proves the originality of the crystal. Today, it is almost impossible to find a genuine, signed crystal with the trapezoidal date magnifier.
The movement of this Polerouter Sub is the automatic caliber 1-69 from Universal Genève. It has been checked and is working properly. The crown is original and signed with the UG logo.
