Movado Datron 434-705-502 Box

panda dial - original Movado Box - steel bracelet

Description
The Movado Datron HS-360 434-705-502 is a rare chronograph from 1970 with a charismatic panda dial, original Movado bracelet and original vintage Movado box.

Zenith and Movado worked together since the late 1960s. The two watch brands joined their forces for building on their research and development department in order to combat the rapid rise of quartz watches. Because of this relationship, the two watch brands shared their designs, movements, etc. Therefore, this Movado Datron is powered by the famous automatic Zenith caliber El Primero 3019 PHC.

This Movado Datron features an attractive panda dial, which makes the watch an unmistakable eye-catcher on the wrist. Three black sub-dials on a white dial show the running seconds at 9 o'clock, a 30-minute counter at 3 o'clock and a 12-hour totalizer at 6 o'clock. A unique feature of this Movado is the date window at 12 o'clock, instead of the typical position between 4 and 5 o'clock which was used with Zenith watches from this time period. The unusual position of the date window creates a symmetry of the dial. A black tachymeter scale with white printing is located on the outer edge of the dial. The hour markers are equipped with original tritium. Overall, the dial has no scratches or defects. A decent and fine patina on a white surface can be observed when inspecting the dial under the loupe.

The Movado Datron is housed in a tonneau-shaped stainless steel case with dimensions of 38x43mm. The lack of a bezel makes the chronograph appear a bit larger on the wrist. The watch was seldom worn and has only a few signs of wear. The winding crown is signed with the Movado logo. The screwed case back is engraved with the words "Sub-Sea". This term was used at the time to indicate the water resistance of the watch. The engraving is crisp and clearly legible proving that the watch is either unpolished or only very rarely and slightly polished.

The caliber 3019 PHC represents the pinnacle of engineering of its time. The legendary El Primero movement is one of the world's first automatic chronograph movements. The present chronograph has been checked and works perfectly in all functions.

The Datron is accompanied by the original Movado stainless steel bracelet from the 1970s. The lightweight bracelet consists of flexible links that sit very comfortably on the wrist. The clasp is signed with the Movado "M".

A beautiful and rare collector's accessory is the original Movado box from the 1970s that accompanies the watch.

Overall, this Movado is a rare vintage chronograph from the 70s with a charismatic appearance and legendary automatic movement.
