Rolex Daytona 6263 FAP

Fuerza Aerea Del Peru - military watch - very rare

Description
Here we offer you a very special military watch: the Rolex Daytona 6263 Fuerza Aerea Del Peru.

Today the manual-wind Rolex Daytona is the most sought-after chronograph on the vintage watch market. But if we go back to 70s and 80s when the watch was produced, the Rolex Daytona was not a collector's watch, but primarily a reliable and robust tool. Not for nothing the Rolex Daytona won the trust of the Peruvian Air Force, which equipped its pilots with the Rolex Oyster Cosmograph. The watch you see here is one of them: the Rolex Daytona 6263 from 1976 with a black Sigma dial and screwed chrono pushers.

The Rolex Daytona Fuerza Area del Peru (FAP) was a special version that differed from the "normal" Daytona. The case back is engraved with "Fuerza area del Peru". The serial number of the watch is not only engraved between the lugs, but also inside the case back. This "double" engraving should avoid interchanging of the case backs. This particular Daytona of course shows matching numbers inside the case back and between the lugs.

In addition, the back of the present watch bears the following special engravings: the name of the pilot / first owner, the date January 16, 1976 and a three-digit military number 367. The last one in particular is extremely rare. We see this three-digit number for the first time on a Rolex Daytona FAP. The fact that all engravings are still clearly legible speaks for an excellent, almost unpolished collector's condition.

Regardless of the fact that this is a military Rolex Daytona, this example is also the most popular reference 6263 with a black Bakelite bezel and screw-down pushers ensuring the water resistance of the watch. The black reverse panda dial has three white sub-dials and it is almost flawlessly preserved. The only spot worth mentioning is the one in the sub-register with a running second at 9 o'clock. The watch features a Sigma dial with silver print. Under the 12-hour totalizer at 6 o'clock, the dial is signed "σ T SWISS T σ". The tritium luminous material in each individual hour marker and in the hands is 100% original and not repainted. The stainless steel case has sharp lugs and hardly any signs of wear. The black Bakelite bezel is also perfectly preserved and shows a tachymeter scale up to 200 units per hour. The winding crown and the chrono pushers are screwed. The oyster bracelet is also in excellent condition and has hardly any signs of wear.

The Rolex Daytona is powered by the legendary chronograph caliber Valjoux 72. The reliability and robustness of this movement are admired by the most collectors worldwide. The present chronograph has of course been put through its paces and works perfectly in all functions.

Interesting accessories from the first owner, who was a pilot in the Peruvian Air Force, remind us of the provenance of this military Rolex Daytona. In addition to the metal badge that he wore on his peaked cap, there is also a black and white photo in which the first owner can be seen with his colleagues and the military aircraft of the Peruvian Air Force in the background.

This Rolex Daytona 6263 FAP is an exceptional vintage chronograph which, due to its history, condition and rarity, belongs to the absolute elite of vintage collector's watches.
