Patek Philippe Calatrava 1578 Rose Gold

rare rose gold version - spider lugs - excellent condition

Patek Philippe combines tradition, elegance and absolute perfection. This Calatrava ref. 1578 from 1945 is an outstanding example of the highest art of Swiss watchmaking.

Even today, Patek Philippe's exceptional care and commitment towards perfection means that it takes almost a year to manufacture even a simple watch movement. Patek Philippe produces less than 50,000 watches per year, though the company could sell ten times that figure. According to reports, fewer than 1 million Patek Philippe watches have been made since the first watch was made in 1839. That is less than some Swiss high-end manufacturers such as Rolex produce in one year.

Here we offer you a Patek Philippe Calatrava 1578 from the 1940s. Characterized by a clean look and timeless elegance, the Calatrava has become the epitome of a gentleman's dress watch. The silver dial features large rose gold Arabic numerals at 3, 6, 9 and 12 o'clock. The long spearhead hands and hour markers are also made of rose gold. The dial bears the correct signature for the era: "Patek Philippe & Co Genève" and it has no "Swiss Made" at the bottom. The spider lugs give the watch a special flair. With its 35mm diameter, the Calatrava was a large wristwatch back then, but fits perfectly today's standards.

Considering the old age of more than 75 years, the overall condition of this watch is just incredible. The watch was rarely worn and properly cared. Everything is original and untouched. The dial surface has an even patina and is free of any scratches or spots. The case has no signs of wear visible the naked eye. Powered by the in-house manual-wind caliber 12-400, the Calatrava ensures accurate timekeeping.

The reference 1578 is an extremely rare watch, especially in a rose gold case. Most of the examples of reference 1578 were produced in yellow gold. The vintage experts believe that less than 20% were made in rose gold.

The originality of this Patek Philippe Calatrava is confirmed by the official Patek Philippe archive extract. It contains important numbers such as the movement and case number, the year of manufacture, the date of sale (September 17, 1946) and other facts about the watch.

The watch is accompanied by an original Patek Philippe leather strap with a gold clasp.

This 76-year-old vintage Calatrava is an exceptional collector's item, made by the most prestigious watch brand and preserved in excellent condition.
