This vintage Heuer Autavia 3646 from the 1960s features a rare transitional configuration.
The Heuer Autavia chronographs from the 1960s gained their fame due to the fact that they were worn by professional racing drivers from this period. The Autavia model offered here was found on the wrist of Formula 1 champion Mario Andretti.
During the development of the Heuer Autavia, the case, dial and bezel have undergone constant changes. The design adjustments had a smooth transition, resulting in a large number of different versions. This particular Autavia has a third-execution dial and a stainless steel case with beveled lugs. The case number 82xxx matches the configuration of the "Transitional Autavia Screw Back Case". Another special feature is the wide bezel, which is similar to the first version. The standard version of the Andretti-Autavia had a narrow bezel.
The great condition of this Autavia makes it even more valuable. The beveled lugs are intact. The engravings on the bottom are sharp. There are no quirks in the reverse panda dial. The case and the rotating bezel show natural signs of wear. Overall, the watch has an honest vintage look. The manual-wound caliber Valjoux 92 operates flawlessly and keeps very good time.
This Heuer Autavia 3646 is a real treasure for every Heuer enthusiast due to its rare configuration and great condition.
