In the 30s and 40s, Heuer produced some extraordinary wristwatches featuring a design that was ahead of their time. One of them is this extremely rare Heuer pilot's chronograph (Flieger) reference 348 from the 1940s.
The combination of a relatively large 39mm case and black two-register dial ensures a striking appearance. The black dial has large Arabic hour numerals. The original radium luminous material can be detected in the hour markers, hands and in the luminous triangle at 12 o'clock. The central chrono hand and the small hands in the sub-dials are white. The chronograph has a bezel with a luminous triangle at 12 o'clock that can be rotated in both directions. That was the typical configuration of the pilot's chronographs in the 30s and 40s. The chronograph has a beautiful vintage presence on the wrist.
The condition of the present example is absolutely astonishing, especially considering its age of approx. 80 years. The chrome-plated nickel case has a thick profile and only a few signs of wear. A highlight of the watch is its black dial that shows no scratches, blemishes, stains or the like. A natural patina in the luminous numerals and hands makes the watch honest and authentic. The manual-wind caliber Valjoux 22 still ensures accurate timekeeping to this day. The chronograph starts, stops and resets perfectly to 12.
This rare Heuer Flieger Chronograph 348 is a real treasure not only for Heuer collectors, but for all vintage enthusiasts who are looking for exceptional vintage chronographs.
