This exotic vintage chronograph dates from the 1960's and is the Nivada Chronoking 87033, preserved in dreamlike condition and powered by a Valjoux movement.
Founded in a small Swiss town called Grenchen in 1879, Nivada is one of the oldest Swiss manufacturers. During the 60s and 70s, Nivada produced some distinctive chronographs that are admired by today's vintage collectors for their great design.
One of them is this Nivada Chronoking Aviator Sea Diver reference 87033. The model’s name underlines that this chronograph is made not only to be used in the air, but also under water. In fact, the Nivada Chronoking offers helpful features for both pilots and divers. On the one hand, the rotating bezel has large minute markings, which must be easy to read when diving. And on the other hand, with the same bezel, a pilot can read a second time zone thanks to the hour numbers. An absolutely stunning vintage timepiece.
The gorgeous condition of this particular watch makes it even more valuable and collectable. The stainless steel case has its full profile, shows sharp lugs and is certainly unpolished. The black dial with its mirrored sub-dials is also perfectly preserved. The tritium lume is original in hour markers and hands. The creamy patina in the hour markers provides a nice contrast. The position of the date at 12 o'clock is unusual and cool. The dial features a tachymeter scale and is signed "T SWISS" at 6 o'clock. The watch appears even livelier thanks to red accents on the chrono seconds hand and sub-dial at 3 o'clock.
The case back still bears deep engravings, which further suggests that the watch is unpolished. The original winding crown is signed with the Nivada logo. The black bezel is immaculately preserved and rotates easily in either direction. The Chronoking is powered by the hand-wound movement Valjoux 234 operating flawlessly in all functions.
Overall, this Nivada Chronoking is an attractive and reliable vintage chronograph that is extremely valuable and collectible thanks to its fantastic condition.
