This fantastic preserved Breitling AVI 765 is a 1965 military chronograph with an attractive reverse panda dial.
Breitling has been one of the leading manufacturers of chronographs since the 1940s. In the 1950s, Breitling produced chronographs for the military and met high standards of accuracy and robustness. Professional watches differed from civilian ones primarily because of their large diameters and strong dial designs. Launched in 1953, the AVI 765 was an icon for Breitling chronographs of the 1950s and set the standard for military pilot's watches. The Venus 178 movement, which normally featured a 30-minute counter, was modified for the AVI 765 to the unique 15-minute counter. This allows the 15-minute pre-flight check to be stopped, that was required for the safe operation of the aircraft.
In ca. 1962 the second execution of the AVI Ref. 765 with a reverse panda dial was introduced. A magnificent specimen is offered here. This watch dates from 1965 and is preserved in fantastic condition. Perfectly shaped case lugs, a full profile and intact engravings on the back are important criteria for a collectible vintage wristwatch. Also the condition of the reverse panda dial will make the future owner proud. The black surface is absolutely clean. The silver-colored sub-dials show a nice even patina. The original tritium lume has also aged evenly in the hands and hour markers. A closer look reveals a few scratches on the rotating bezel. The winding crown bears the Breitling logo.
This Breitling AVI 765 is a rare chronograph with a stunning design and a large 41mm diameter. The watch is ideal for everyday wear and is a quality addition to any watch collection.
