This exotic vintage Nivada chronograph is hard to beat when it comes to aesthetics and appeal. The watch dates from the 1980s and has a Paul Newman dial.
After Mr. Paul Newman's Rolex sold for nearly $18 million at Phillips in New York, this dial design has been on everyone's lips. The main feature are the square-tipped lollipop hour markers in the sub-dials making the watch more eye-catching. Rolex ordered the Paul Newman dials from a dial maker called Singer. But Rolex was not the only customer of the Singer factory. We also see the exotic Paul Newman sub-dials on watches from other brands from the 70s and 80s.
One of them is this Nivada chronograph from the 80s. Inside the beige sub-registers, Singer even used the same font as the Rolex Paul Newman Daytona. The charismatic dial design is supported by large white indices, red depth indication, a tachymeter scale, date window at 3 o'clock, rotating bezel with hours, minutes and a luminous dot at 12 o'clock. The position of the sub-dials at 9 and 12 o'clock is also unusual.
But the absolute highlight of this Nivada is its mint condition. It is obvious that this watch is almost unworn. The stainless steel case has its original shape with curved and beveled lugs. There are hardly any signs of wear on the bezel and on the case. The dial is absolutely flawless. The tritium lume in the hour markers and hands has a stunning, rich patina. The Nivada is powered by the Valjoux 7765 - a very robust manual-wound movement that operates perfectly.
Overall, this Nivada 500-1 is an exotic vintage chronograph from the 80s in mint condition.
