SoldThe Rolex Air models were originally developed for pilots in the 1940s. The first wearers of these watches were the pilots of the British Royal Air Force. The Air-King was the largest variant with its 34mm diameter.
This particular Rolex Air-King 5500 dates from 1981 and comes with complete and original accessories. The elegant watch was acquired by the first owner on October 1, 1981. The chronometer certificate is labeled with the serial number and shows the seller's stamp. Other accessories are the original presentation box, warranty translation, calendar 1981-1982 and a Rolex booklet.
The Oyster case has natural signs of wear but has remained unpolished: a condition searched by vintage collectors. The silver dial is flawless and shows no scratches or spots. The tritium is original and intact in both the hands and the hour markers. The oyster bracelet also has slight signs of wear. The watch has honestly aged together in all parts. The Oyster bracelet has the reference 78350 and the clasp code VF and thus dates to 1981. The Air-King is powered by the extremely robust and reliable Rolex automatic caliber 1520.
Overall, this vintage Rolex Air-King is an authentic, evenly aged, honest and - thanks to the original accessories - a very valuable vintage collector's watch.
