This gorgeous Rolex Explorer Freccione dates from 1978.
The orange 24-hour hand is the hallmark feature of this watch. It is also the reason why this Explorer model is nicknamed "Freccione" (Italian for pointer/hand). Rolex developed the Explorer Freccione for explorers who spent long periods of time in places without natural light. A day/night display was of great importance for these people. With the help of the orange hand and the 24-hour bezel, the time can be read off the bezel in 24-hour format.
A special attribute of this example is the absolutely evenly aged tritium lume in the hands and hour markers. The creamy patina of the original luminous material gives the watch a warm and harmonious appearance.
