This Zodiac 280GX is a rare Libyan Air Force military chronograph from the 1970s powered by the Valjoux 7750 automatic movement.
The design of this watch originally comes from Porsche Design. Ferdinand Porsche was personally involved in designing this dial layout. During the quartz crisis, the design patents were sold to a few other companies such as Heuer, Le Jour, Sinn or Zodiac.
The Valjoux 7750 automatic movement presented around 1973 is known for its accuracy, robustness and durability. Because of these features it was used for military chronographs. One of them is this Libyan Air Force Zodiac Chronograph from the 1970s.
The sub-dial with the running seconds shows the emblem of the Libyan Air Force with Arabic lettering. Written in black: "Libyan Arab Air Force" and in white: "Academy of the Air Force". The weekday display is also in Arabic.
The black PVD case looks very distinctive on the wrist and the black dial offers a nice contrast thanks to the white markings on the sub-dials and the tachymeter scale. The seconds chrono hand is red.
