Unique and rare! This vintage Certina DS 5601-113 has an extraordinary dial design. The excellent condition makes it even more rare and valuable.
Certina developed this robust wristwatch in the 1950s. The model name DS stands for "double security". In addition to the conventional shock protection, the movement was attached to the case with an elastic shock absorber ring. Due to its robustness and reliability, the members of the Himalayan expedition led by Max Eiselin on May 13, 1960 were equipped with Certina DS watches. In the 1960s, the first diver models of the DS line were produced. These were also used under extreme conditions in deep-sea research. This is how the Certina DS became the epitome of a particularly robust, durable and reliable wristwatch.
The reference 5601-113 offered here dates from 1964 and has a breathtaking dial design. The stylish hour numerals and the applied tritium indices are striking. The symmetry of the dial is ensured by the red crosshair and of course the absence of the date window. This watch is also available with a date window (Ref. 5801-113). The no-date version offers a calmer look due to its symmetry.
The stainless steel case has beautiful Bombay lugs. The case back shows the Certina's famous turtle logo encircled by a ring of waves meant to symbolize the ocean.
At least as rare as the watch itself is the accompanying Gay-Frères stainless steel bracelet from 1964. It is super comfortable to wear on the wrist and it looks beautiful.
This watch is also accompanied by the original red Certina box.
