IWC Doppelchronograph 3711 Split Seconds

splits seconds chrono - original bracelet - creamy lume

Description
This super-cool chronograph is one of those so-called "post quartz crisis watches" that were produced in the 80's and 90's and deserve a lot more attention today than they get. The IWC Doppelchronograph (double chronograph) 3711 was manufactured between 1992 and 1995. In this short production time, fewer than 3200 reference 3711 watches were produced. On top, this particular example is accompanied by the original and rare stainless steel bracelet. The rarity combined with many complications makes this watch very valuable from a collector's point of view.

The IWC Doppelchronograph is a tool watch through and through. When you hold the IWC Doppelchronograph in your hand, you immediately feel its robustness. 42mm stainless steel case and the original stainless steel bracelet invite you to wear it every day.

Technically, the watch is one of the most complicated chronographs of the 20th century. The split-seconds complication allows split times or a second time to be stopped. To protect against magnetic fields, the double chronograph has a soft-iron ring located between the case cover and the movement.

A look at the black dial reveals other functions of this watch. 30-minute counter at 12 o'clock, 12-hour totalizer at 6 o'clock and small running seconds at 9 o'clock. The large white hour numerals ensure a high-contrast look and good legibility. The white weekday and date display at 3 o'clock also contributes to this. Another striking feature of this chronograph is the winding crown with the IWC fish symbol, which draws attention to the water resistance.

The watch is powered by the IWC automatic caliber 79030, which is based on the Valjoux caliber 7750 and has been enhanced with a modular split-seconds chronograph mechanism.

The fact that the modern IWC reference IW371815 looks almost the same as the original reference 3711 proves that this 90s design was way ahead of its time. The Doppelchronograph is an IWC icon and the reference 3711 will always remain the FIRST IWC Doppelchronograph.
