Rolex Explorer 6610 Box and Papers

stunning condition - early Explorer - safe queen

Description
This absolutely stunning Rolex Explorer 6610 comes from 1958 and is accomponied by original box and papers.

Reference 6610 is one of the early Explorer models and a favorite among vintage collectors. This reference was introduced in the late 1950's and featured a black gilt dial with gold lettering, a chapter ring and Mercedes hands. The 6610 was in production for around five years before being replaced by the reference 1016 in 1963. To date, only a few specimens have survived in good condition.

This is a 1958 Rolex Explorer 6610 that has been stored in a safe for several decades, which is proven by the traces on the dial caused by the radiation from the radium in hands. The watch has not been worn or wound for a very long time, causing the hands to literally 'freeze' and making the radioactive lume react with the dial over the years. The radium "burned" into the dial exactly where the hour, minute and second hands were (see pictures). For some, this circumstance may seem like a defect. But for discerning vintage collectors, this is proof of the untouched and virgin nature of this Explorer. Absolutely extraordinary and not reproducible.

This Rolex Explorer 6610 is accompanied by its original accessories. In addition to the case and movement number, the guarantee card also shows the date of sale of the watch - November 8, 1958. The papers are in Italian because the watch was originally handed over to its first owner in Milan. A green presentation box and the original leather card holder are also present.

On the wrist, the Explorer offers a truly charming vintage look thanks to the beautiful patina and the riveted Rolex Oyster bracelet.
