This Mathey-Tissot chronograph dates from the early 1950s and features a black Galvanic dial with stunning patina.
Interesting info: Mathey-Tissot watches are often mistaken for Tissot watches and vice versa. However, these two brands are two different, independent watch manufacturers that certainly want to be recognized as such.
The Mathey-Tissot watch manufacture was founded in the small Swiss village of Les Ponts de Martel. Mathey-Tissot initially specialized in repeater watches. Soon after, the manufacture started producing chronographs, which received numerous prizes and awards due to their high quality. At the Kew Observatory Competition of 1914, Mathey-Tissot was represented by six split-seconds chronographs. During World War I, Mathey-Tissot was commissioned to equip United States Army Corps of Engineers with their precision chronographs.
The timepiece offered here is powered by the robust and reliable Valjoux 72C movement and features a beautiful black galvanic dial with gilt lettering. The watch features a date display at the dial outer track, day of the week and month display in the small apertures at 12 o'clock, running seconds at 9 o'clock, 30-minute counter at 3 o'clock and 12-hour totalizer at 6 o'clock. The date hand has a red triangle tip.
Due to the natural patina, the chronograph has a genuine vintage look that is second to none. The black and gold combination looks very classy and the red date hand makes the dial even more vibrant and casual.
