Description
The Heuer Bund 1550 SG is one of the most famous military chronographs in the world. In the 1960s, the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) were equipped with this robust timepiece. The large 42mm stainless steel case houses a black dial with two black sub-dials. The large Arabic luminous numerals ensure good readability. The rotating bezel with its wide black insert also contributes to the distinctive military look of the Heuer Bund.

What makes this particular execution so special is the "3H" dial, that shows a red circle with the inscription "3H" 6 o'clock indicating the use of tritium lume. There have also been dials without this feature, with the 3H dials being rarer and more sought after.

The Heuer Bund is a flyback chronograph. While a classic chronograph needs to be stopped, reset and started, a flyback chronograph can be instantly restarted by pressing the bottom pusher. This rare complication is offered by the robust manual-wound caliber Valjoux 230. Additionally, it features the helpful hacking-seconds function. If you pull out the winding crown to set the time, the seconds hand stops. Thus, the time can be set to the exact second.

Condition report
Dial: very good - slight scratches can only be seen under a 10X loupe - signed "SWISS" at 6 o'clock.

Case: slight signs of wear - intact lugs - deep engravings on the back: "BUNDESWEHR", military supply number 6645-12-146-3774 (crossed out) and 6645-12-340-9456 - legible numbers between the lugs.

Movement: manual-wound caliber Valjoux 230 - flyback chronograph works perfectly - timegrapher: rate: -7s/day, amplitude: 256, beat error: 0.0 - service not necessary.

Summing-Up
Thanks to its significant history, rare flyback complication and rare dial, the Heuer Bund is a valuable vintage military chronograph. The impressive looks, reliable movement and honest condition make the chronograph perfectly suitable for everyday wear.
