This super cool Breitling Chronomat 2508 dates back to 1952 and has some interesting features like the two-tone dial, rotating bezel and bidirectional winding movement. This rare model is preserved in an impressive NOS condition.
Most watches of the Chronomat line were chronographs. The reference 2508 here, while not a chronograph, is still a part of the Chronomat family. This is evident from the original Breitling catalog (in German) of the 1950s (see pictures): under the description of the Chronomat, the following is noted: "The Chronomat is also available as self-winding automatic, without stop mechanism, 21 rubies, shockproof. Mod. 2508".
The silver dial of this watch is a highlight in its own right. Not to be overlooked is the subdivision of the dial into four equally sized circular sections, which appear darker or lighter depending on the angle from which you look on it (see pictures). A rare feature are the steel indexes. Most known examples of the reference 2508 have golden indexes. In our opinion, the watch looks much more harmonious with steel indexes. The beauty of the dial is also contributed by the dauphine hands and red accents.
The present watch has a rotatable bezel with a telemeter scale. The number 217012 visible on the dial refers to the Brevet patent of this unusual rotating inner bezel.
With its 37.5mm stainless steel case, this Breitling is one of the rather rare wristwatches of the 50s, because most of them were much smaller back then. On the wrist, the Chronomat looks very aesthetic thanks to its perfect proportions.
Another special feature of this Breitling Chronomat is the caliber Felsa 690 - called "Bidynator". It was the first automatic movement with bi-directional winding. Bidynator was manufactured by Felsa between 1942 and 1963.
And last but not least, this Breitling is preserved in a truly exceptional NOS condition, which makes this already rare model absolutely irretrievable.
