The Rolex Day-Date was introduced in 1956 and it was the first wristwatch to have a date and a day of the week display. It is one of the most prestigious models of the Swiss watch manufacturer and to this day exclusively made of precious metals. The model owes its nickname "The President Watch" to the fact that the US presidents Franklin D. Roosevelt and John F. Kennedy were among the famous wearers of a Rolex Day-Date.
Here you see a Rolex Day-Date 1803 from 1972 in 18k yellow gold case. Besides its excellent condition, the watch is distinguished by the rare red quarters dial. The reason for this designation are the red numbers at 15, 30, 45 and 60 minutes. The more common dial variant had no numerals, but only tritium dots at the hour markers. The red numbers show up beautifully on the snow-white step dial. These special dials are very popular among collectors and attract their attention more and more.
The long gold hour markers also contrast nicely with the white dial surface. The week display is in Italian. The date window with cyclops magnifier is at 3 o'clock as usual.
