Universal Genève Space-Compax 885104/01 MK1

reverse panda - MK1 version - amazing condition

Description
Due to its fantastic condition, this MK1 version of the Universal Genève Space Compax is a truly rare find.

The Space Compax is a professional diver's watch from the 1960s that was designed for extreme conditions and was water resistant to 750 feet. Due to its rarity, exceptional design and reliable movement, it is now very popular with vintage collectors. While the later MK2 version had an all-black dial, the early MK1 had a Reverse Panda dial with white sub-registers. In addition, the MK1 features the big "12" and full-lume hour markers.

A beloved and special feature of the Space Compax is its asymmetrical case. To better protect the crown and pushers, the right side of the case was built thicker. The resulting asymmetrical shape is a recognizable feature of Vintage Universal Genève watches.

The reference and serial number of the Space Compax were engraved on the caseback. Most watches have undergone service during their long history, with the movement being overhauled and the case refinished to restore its luster. But in the process, the numbers on the caseback of the watch are gradually polished away until they are no longer visible. This drastically reduces the value of the watch. On the other hand, visible numbers indicate that the watch was not polished or was polished only very lightly. This criterion is very important for vintage collectors and increases the value of the watch.

The mint condition of the Space Compax offered here makes it very special and rare.
