Vintage chronograph Heuer Camaro is immediately recognizable by its distinctive cushion case. Here is the classic reference 7743 with two sub-registers from the late 60s.
In 1968, the Heuer Camaro was launched. The name of the watch comes from the Chevrolet Camaro sports car, which was the official safety car in the famous American car race "Indianapolis 500" from 1967 to 1969. Heuer chose this name to appeal to a new, young target group interested in motor sports. Production of the Heuer Camaro was discontinued after just four years. Today, the chronograph is highly appreciated by vintage collectors thanks to its unique design and robust Valjoux movement.
The dial of the Camaro here has an attractive dark brown hue and is called "charcoal" by vintage collectors. What makes the watch particularly rare is the condition of the dial, especially the luminous material. Every single tritium plot is 100% intact and the color matches that of the hands.
Condition report
Dial: excellent condition - no scratches - even dark brown patina - original tritium lume in markers and hands - matching colors in markers and hands - signed "T SWISS".
Case: collectible condition - worn but unpolished - natural wear marks - clearly legible numbers between lugs.
Movement: manual wind caliber Valjoux 7730 - timegrapher: rate: +9s/day, amplitude: 268, beat error: 0.6.
Summing-Up
This Heuer Camaro 7743 is a joy on the wrist. Not only because it operates perfectly keeping very good time. It offers also a distinctive design that sets it apart from all other vintage Heuer models. The original dial in top condition, the original hands and the unpolished case make this watch a valuable collector's item.
