Rolex Datejust 6605 Serpico Y Laino

special dial - excellent condition - 18k yellow gold

Description
This vintage Rolex Datejust 6605 dates back to 1958 and features a rare "Serpico Y Laino" dial in exceptional condition.

Reference 6605 was produced in the short period between 1956 and 1959. One important difference from the previous reference 6305 was the newly introduced caliber 1065 with the so-called butterfly rotor. Another important change was the inscription: "Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified" instead of "Officially Certified Chronometer", as it was the case with previous Datejust models.

Serpico y Laino was a company founded in Caracas in 1925 and was the leading retailer of luxury watches in Venezuela for about 40 years until its closure in 1966. Serpico y Laino held exclusive distribution rights in Venezuela for Rolex. Few of the timepieces sold by Serpico y Laino had the inscription "SERPICO Y LAINO" on their dials.

The 65-year-old dial of this particular 18k yellow gold Datejust 6605 is so special not only because of the rare retailer inscription, but also because of the exceptional original condition. Rarely do we see such an even patina, which should amaze any vintage watch enthusiast, especially when viewed under a loupe.

The golden arrow indexes and hands provide a harmonious vintage look. Together with the fluted bezel, this creates the elegant charm of a vintage Datejust.

And last but not least, this Datejust scores with its excellently preserved 18-karat yellow gold case with super-sharp hallmarks, intact sunburst finish and sharp lugs.
