The first Autavias were produced in the early 1960s and featured screw-down case backs. The present Heuer Autavia bears the reference 2446C. The letter "C" refers to the compressor case that Heuer used in a short production period in the late 1960s. In a very short production period between 1969 and 1970, Heuer delivered this Autavia version to the Argentine Air Force. The watches were provided with the Argentine Air Force logo on the case back. This special engraving can also be seen on the bottom of the watch offered here.
The attractive reverse panda dial of this Autavia is superbly preserved. The white sub-dials have aged evenly and have a beautiful dark patina. The tritium luminous material in the hands and hour markers is original. The stainless steel case measures 40mm in diameter and is larger than the screwed Autavias (39mm). The lugs have a thick profile. The natural signs of wear make this vintage watch very authentic and honest - one must not forget that it is a military watch that is over 50 years old.
The Autavia 2446C is powered by the iconic manual-wound chronograph caliber Valjoux 72. Reliability and robustness are the main reasons why this movement was used for military purposes. We have checked the watch and it operates perfectly keeping good time.
The military Autavias are very rare chronographs and extremely sought-after in the vintage market. The present Heuer Autavia 2446C is a valuable vintage collector's watch due to its honest and authentic condition.
