This Rolex Submariner 1680 is a collectible vintage watch not only because of the rare dial with red Submariner lettering, but also because of the original accessories from the 1970s.
In 1967, Rolex introduced the first Submariner with a date and gave it a new reference, the 1680. The first versions are now called "red subs" because their dials were printed with red "Submariner" word. After 1974, the dials of the 1680 were printed completely in white. The specimen offered here was produced in 1974 and is therefore one of the youngest red subs. For the experts out there: This is the Mark VI dial version, with a "feet-first" depth indication and closed 6s in "660 ft = 200 m".
This Submariner was sold on April 10, 1976 in Barcelona, Spain, which is confirmed by the original chronometer guarantee, punched with the watch's serial number and stamped with the seller's signature "J.Roca Joyero". The watch is also accompanied by original Rolex boxes, a service card from 1989 and a guarantee translation. The outer box has the matching "1680/a/b" sticker and the black dot referring to the black dial.
Apart from its special dial and original accessories, this Submariner scores with its great condition.
