Description
This impressive chronograph is the Eberhard Pre-Extra-Fort from the 1940s with a large diameter of 40mm and a stunning Galvanic dial with gilt print.

The production of the complex galvanic coating underlines the high standards of exclusivity and craftsmanship that Eberhard was already living up to in the 1940s. A galvanic dial with its deep black, glossy finish and gold-colored print is a feast for the eyes. Added to this is the natural ageing and authentic patina of this chronograph. The different light reflections of this dial are simply magical.

The spiral tachymeter scale gives the dial a complex and technical look. The so-called snail scale was particularly popular in the 1940s and 1950s and was used by racing drivers and pilots to measure speed. In contrast to a tachymeter scale, which runs around the edge of the dial, the snail scale takes into account several rotations of the chrono hand and thus enables measurements over longer periods of time or distances. The watches with a snail scale are highly prized by collectors due to their historical significance and unique design.

The case size of 40mm is very rare for wristwatches from the 1940s. The large diameter gives the watch a striking presence on the wrist.

There is also no lack of technical sophistication in this Pre-Extrafort. It is a special monopusher chronograph in which all chronograph functions (start, stop and reset) are operated via a single pusher at 2 o'clock. The mechanism of a monopusher chronograph is more complicated and requires precise engineering to ensure that all functions can be reliably controlled by one pusher. These watches have often been used in areas where simple and quick operation is important, such as motorsports or aviation.

The lower pusher acts as a "blocking" mechanism, which locks the chronograph by simply pushing it upwards. This prevents unintentional interruptions or resetting of the chronograph, e.g. during sporting competitions or scientific experiments. This Eberhard Extra-Fort Chronograph is another example of the innovative power and technical expertise of Eberhard & Co.
