Eberhard Extra-Fort Rattrapante 18k Yellow Gold - Box

Ultra rare mechanics combined with breathtaking looks make this Eberhard Extra Fort Rattrapante from the 1950s a very special find. The excellent condition simply leaves us speechless and the original Eberhard box comes on top.

Most Extra Fort watches from the 1940s and 1950s were "normal" chronographs in steel cases. The split-seconds chronographs were much more expensive due to their complexity and higher manufacturing costs, making them unaffordable for many people. As a result, far fewer of them were produced. And an Extra Fort split-seconds chronograph in a yellow gold case was probably the most exclusive thing you could buy from Eberhard at the time. The fact that such a watch has remained in this almost unworn condition to this day is absolutely astounding and leaves us, as passionate vintage watch enthusiasts, speechless.

The combination of the large 39 mm case and three-register dial makes for a striking look on the wrist. We love the blue tachymeter scale, which adds a touch of sportiness to the elegant dial. Gold elements such as the dauphine hands, applied Eberhard logo, gold hour markers, etc. create a very harmonious, warm look.

This watch is also accompanied by an old, original Eberhard box.

About split-seconds chronographs from Eberhard
Split-seconds chronographs, also known as rattrapante, are among the most complex timepieces of the 20th century. As a pioneer in this field, Eberhard developed this tool watch for racing drivers in the 1930s. A split-seconds chronograph has an additional hand that can be stopped independently to measure intermediate times while the main chronograph hand continues to move. In this way, several events can be measured that start at the same time but can take different lengths of time - such as lap times in a motorsport race. The chronograph can be operated via the large fluted crown with integrated pusher - the trademark of split-seconds chronographs.

Condition report
Dial: absolutely perfect, clean dial with a great authentic patina - clean sub-registers with fine, concentric grooves - gold hands and markers in perfect condition - blue tachymeter scale is immaculate - signed at 6 o'clock with "swiss made".

Case: 18 carat yellow gold case with beveled lugs - slight signs of wear - intact gold hallmarks on the case and inside the case back - serial number inside the back - original fluted crown with an integrated pusher for the rattrapante function.

Movement: manually-wound caliber Eberhard 16000 in excellent condition - values on the timegrapher: rate: +6s/day, beat error: 0.5 ms, amplitude: 326 degrees.
