The Movado Super Sub Sea is a rare and striking vintage chronograph from the 1960s, renowned for its reliable movement. This particular example is in excellent condition, with an unpolished case, a perfectly preserved bezel and a flawless dial.
In the 1960s, the merger of Zenith and Movado resulted in a series of jointly developed chronographs characterised by their distinctive design. The Movado Super Sub Sea offered here shares many features with the Zenith A277, including the iconic reverse panda dial. Both models are powered by the caliber 146-HP, the last manual-wind movement from Zenith-Movado before the introduction of the legendary El Primero automatic caliber. The 146-HP is considered as a masterpiece of watchmaking, renowned for its precision, robustness, and reliability.
The Movado Super Sub Sea stands out with its large 40mm case, housing the striking dial with its prominent long tritium hour markers. Bold dauphine hands, the distinctive paddle seconds hand, and the integrated tachymeter scale give this chronograph an instantly recognisable look.
The condition of this example is truly impressive, making it a genuine collector's piece. The reverse panda dial is in flawless condition, while the unpolished case displays crisp bevels, a robust profile, and a deep, intact "SUPER SUB SEA" engraving on the case back. The original acrylic crystal features the Movado logo placed at its center. The rotating bezel is equally remarkable, with perfectly preserved notches and a pristine black insert. Even the original lume pearl at 12 o'clock is still intact.
With this Movado Super Sub Sea, you will be wearing a rare vintage timepiece that exudes remarkable retro charm and carries an intriguing history.
