Early Datejust references such as this 6075 are extremely rare due to their low production numbers and advanced age. The special dealer signature on the dial gives this watch additional exclusivity. With its timeless charm, unique history and rare characteristics, this vintage Datejust is a true highlight for discerning collectors.
The watch dates back to the 1950s and bears a rare dealer signature on the dial: Joyeria Riviera. The renowned jeweler based in Havana, Cuba, was founded in 1943 and was one of the few who enjoyed the privilege of having their name immortalized on Rolex dials.
The Rolex Datejust was first introduced in 1945 as reference 4467. Although it was already listed in the Rolex catalog under "Datejust", the model name did not initially appear on the dial. It was not until the 1950s that the word "Datejust" was actually placed on the dial. The model shown here, reference 6075, dates from 1950 and bears the model name in striking red lettering - a detail that makes it one of the first watches to actually bear the model name "Datejust" on the dial.
Among vintage collectors, this model is also known as the "Ovettone" - Italian for "big egg". The name refers to the distinctive, domed case profile, which is reminiscent of the early "bubble back" watches. These were fitted with a more domed case back due to the automatic movement and the associated greater space requirements and are considered the forerunners of the Ovettone models.
This watch stands out with its white graine dial with golden Dauphine hands, elegant dagger indices and a red date window. The dial, which is over 70 years old, has developed a charming, natural patina. The red Datejust lettering and the red date window are typical features of the early Datejust models from the 1950s. The finely fluted bezel stylishly rounds off the classic design.
All in all, a historically significant piece of the renowned Rolex brand and an extremely rare collector's item with exceptional charisma.
