The Heuer Mareographe 346 is an extremely rare chronograph with integrated tide indicator from the 1950s. Originally developed for sailors and water sports enthusiasts, this highly specialised function allows the measurement of the tides - an indispensable tool for anyone who needed to keep an eye on the influence of high and low tides on their activities.
The intricate dial combines classic chronograph complications with a unique tide indicator: a rotating tide disc at 9 o'clock shows the ebb and flow of the tide and can be adjusted using the pusher between 9 and 10 o'clock. The Reference 346 has a large 12-hour totaliser at 6 o'clock and a 30-minute counter at 3 o'clock.
With its striking 38 mm stainless steel case and its high profile, the Mareographe makes a striking impression on the wrist. Inside is the famous Valjoux 71, a precise hand-wound movement specially modified for the tide function.
The Heuer Mareographe was produced in very small numbers because of its specialised target group. While most of these watches became known under the brand names Abercrombie & Fitch or Orvis, the number of original examples bearing the Heuer name is particularly small.
The Heuer Mareographe 346 combines technical innovation, maritime functionality and timeless elegance in a watch that goes far beyond the classic chronograph. For collectors and aficionados of exceptional vintage watches, this model is a true icon - and one of the rarest creations to bear the Heuer name.
