This Heuer Autavia 2446 from the 1960s is a real gem among vintage Autavia chronographs: it features the so-called "Transitional" case - a rare transitional form that was produced for a short time between the first and second Autavia generations.
This special case design forms a stylistic bridge between the early and later versions of Reference 2446. Characteristic of the transitional version is the absence of the typical chamfer on the lugs - the beveled edge between the top of the case and the flanks that was present on both the first and second versions. Less than 30 watches with a transitional case are known to exist today. This reduced, clearer design gives the watch an unmistakable visual identity and makes it a coveted collector's item, not least because of its rarity.
This model also features the legendary dial configuration made famous by Austrian Formula 1 driver Jochen Rindt. Rindt, the only driver in the history of Formula 1 to be crowned world champion posthumously, wore an Autavia with this design on his wrist both in the paddock and on the track. Since then, the striking dial design has been inextricably linked with his name and is known to collectors as the "Rindt Autavia".
This Autavia is not just a timepiece, but a rare piece of racing history on the wrist - full of character, authenticity and mechanical finesse.
