This Omega Constellation Ref. 168.0065 is a prime example of the fine watchmaking craftsmanship of the 1970s and a worthy representative of one of Omega's most historically significant model lines.
Since its introduction in 1952, the Constellation line has stood for precision and elegance at the highest level. The caseback features the iconic observatory medallion, surrounded by eight stars – a tribute to Omega's outstanding achievements in chronometer trials: two world records and six first-place finishes between 1933 and 1952. The Constellation was also the first time a watch brand launched an entire collection exclusively made up of officially certified chronometers.
In terms of design, the Constellation set its own standards. Especially sought-after is the variant shown here, featuring the distinctive "Pie Pan" dial. A rare highlight of this example is the unusually positioned "OMEGA" signature at 6 o'clock – the so-called "inverted Omega" variant. On most dials, the brand name is classically placed beneath the Omega logo at 12 o'clock.
The flawless silver dial is adorned with faceted baton hour markers featuring elegant black onyx inlays, perfectly complemented by dauphine hands with matching black inlays. At 3 o'clock sits the quick-set date window.
The 34 mm stainless steel case remains unpolished – with sharp line and bold lugs that lend the watch both elegance and presence. Completing the design is the original Omega stainless steel bracelet, reference 1503 – lightweight and exceptionally comfortable on the wrist.
Inside ticks the reliable Omega Chronometer Caliber 1011 – an automatic movement with quickset date and hacking seconds, making it a joy both in everyday use and in any refined collection.
Vintage Omega Constellation models have long been among the most desirable classics of the brand – and the Ref. 168.0065 offered here is without a doubt one of the finest examples on the market, featuring a rare dial variant and outstanding preservation.
