This Autavia belongs to that rare category of watches which, even for seasoned collectors who have seen many rarities, inspires a sense of awe. It is an extremely rare special production: a silver-dial manual-wind Autavia featuring the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway logo on the dial.
Fewer than four examples of this extraordinary execution are known. According to reports, it was created as a special commission by Tony Hulman, the then-owner of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, who had these watches made as exclusive gifts for business partners and friends.
Another fascinating feature is that this is the only Autavia with a silver dial – while all other executions of that era came with the classic black dial with contrasting sub-registers. The "Wings and Wheel" logo is printed in metallic gold paint, sparkles in the sunlight, and through its textured printing creates an almost three-dimensional effect, as if it were rising slightly above the dial surface.
This chronograph is without doubt one of the most valuable and coveted Heuer collector's watches of all time. Combined with its excellent condition, it represents a discovery that can hardly be surpassed in the world of vintage Heuer.
