An exceptionally rare witness of the 1950s: the Movado M95 Chronograph, reference 19038.
Founded in 1881, Movado ranks among the great Swiss manufactures, known not only for cases and dials but also for developing its own movements. At the heart of this model beats the in-house hand-wound caliber M95 – considered one of the finest chronograph movements of the 20th century. A charming peculiarity of this caliber lies in its operation: the chronograph is started and stopped with the lower pusher, while the upper pusher resets it – unlike the conventional operation in most chronographs.
The case was designed by François Borgel, one of the most important case designers of his time, who also shaped the legendary Patek Philippe reference 1463. Particularly striking are the sharply angled lugs, which lend the watch a distinctive yet elegant profile.
The dial captivates with its balanced tri-register layout and refined details: red hands and red minute numerals along the outer track add a sporty accent, while the rare fully written "Switzerland" signature at 6 o'clock makes this example especially sought-after. The applied Arabic numerals are filled with original radium lume, further underlining the watch's authenticity.
Considering its age of around 70 years, this Movado has been preserved in truly remarkable condition – a collector's chronograph that unites elegance, technical mastery, and historical significance.
